Trail Specs
- The trail is about 20 miles long - it is frequented by backpackers and trail cyclists alike
- It is built on an old railway line
- The Deschutes River runs from the Columbia River to Bend, OR
- The river is a very popular for whitewater rafting/ camping
- Lewis and Clark tried to dub it the Clarks River, but French fur traders called it “Riviere des Chutes” or “River of the Falls”
- Originally, it flowed around Pilot Butte from the East. After a lava flow filled in that channel, it was diverted into a channel along the West side
